Really weird hitch hiker

I saw this thing in the tank tonight. It appears to be munching on a nassarius snail or perhaps a hermit (that's the bulb at the end, a shell). Any ideas? Help!
It's about 3" long dangling from a rock.

Well I thought "if it's eating my snails, it's probably bad" here's what it looks like out of the tank.

What scares me is that you are probably going to take those tongs back to the kitchen when they are done with "tank duty"
BTW, I looked twice and have no idea what that is.
