REASON TO USE RO/DI not only for tank, but to drink!

well that is good to know... i believe, from what i have read, is that the di will remove alot of the trace elements that your body needs.. these can be supplemented with vitamins from what I understand. But basically, looks like we all absorb more from a shower then we do drink, so the study concludes that it really doesnt matter what water we drink, cuz we will get poisoned in the shower anyways! LOL

This kind of stuff can drive a man crazy, which is why I try not to think about it to much. Now for a nice tall glass of filth...

i just wanted to make some really good points to those who wish to know why ro/di is pretty much a necessity for our marine aquariums. but got into more then i could handle...

Cain thanks for providing this info. I used to drink a lot of iced tea until I found out that the majority comes from India where human fertilizer is used. I really dont know if this is true or not but it was enough to make me stop drinking it until I know. Nothing is safe.

I cannot remember exactly why but I have heard that it is not good to drink water that is that pure. This came from the water company that we get our office water and have a RO/DI unit from.

It has been known for quite some time that RO water should be used for consumption... the process has been around for quite sometime... Its the only water that StarBucks will use... Di water on the other hand is "to pure" to drink and will not rehydrate your body...

thats true ruaround.. r/o water is good to drink, however the di part removes trace elements that your body requires. These can be supplemented by vitamins. But it is suggested that u do not di your drinking water. The ro process will leave enough trace elements for your body.
For those who take a long hot shower:
You are absorbing chlorine into your body through the steam in the air, as well as the toxins that are in the water. More then if you were to just drink tap water. The study concluded that basically it doesnt matter if you drink just plain tap water because your body will absorb more inpurities from the shower alone then what you could consume in a whole day.
I had fun doing the research about this, and i think it has opened alot of eyes to why they need to use the ro/di for their tanks!
I just wish I could change the name of the thread to "Why you NEED to use RO/DI water in your aquarium!"

Thats weird. I was told not to drink ro/di water because it has nothing in it. Our drinking water has clorine and other crap in it that cleans it and makes it safe. The guys at my LFS told me not to drink it.

Not to play devil's advocate here, but I dont believe in the while RO/DI water thing for health reasons. Do I drink RO/DI water? You betcha! Do I drink my tap water? Of course! The RO/DI water tastes clean and for that reason I buy it in bulk. However, I still believe in my tap water. I used your resources and found that my supplier was only found with 9 pollutants in the water all well below the average levels and 0 citations or illegal levels in the past 8 years.
One thing you have to think about is that our tap water is treated with beneficial addatives as well. While you can buy bottled water with flouride added, why pay for it? I dunno, my brother (who is a discriminative water drinker) will tell you that my tap water tastes like bottled water.
If the city I lived in didnt have as high of a water standard or if I lived in an old house with copper pipes, I probably would refrain from drinking the tap water, but otherwise....I'm all good with it and so are my teeth!
