I have a 24 gal nano cube with a Percula Clown , 2 firefish, a diamond goby, yellow polyps, and a flowerpot... i would like to get another fish or two, any recommendations? I would like to get the Percula Clown a friend since everything i have read o them says that they do best in groups. how many fish am i able to keep? all are currently about an inch long.

You might get by with a pair of perculas make sure the new one you get is smaller than the other one. And only have 2 if you have 3 they will kill each other until there is 2.
As for fish in a 24 mabey around 4 or 5 "small" fish like they stay around an inch long at adult size. But with to percs you might only be able to have 4.

You are done. It is not wise to add any more fish. Your fish are "currently" an inch each so you have 4 inches of fish, which is good, but you don't go by their "current" size. You go by their maximum size.
Your clown will grow to 3", your firefish 3" each and your diamond will get to 5".
You will have an accumulated 14 inches of fish when yours are grown. Adding anymore can be detrimental to your bio-load.

ppl break the limit all the time. It is good to follow but can be broken depending your type if filtration.

And people jump off buildings too!
If you are suggesting that a 24 gallon tank can have enough filtration to accomodate more than quadruple the recomended bioload then more power to her. I was under the assumption that she didn't have a 100 gallon sump.:D
In all seriousness though, people join these message boards to learn and hopefully apply optimum conditions for their pets. Giving advice such as "people do it all the time" when refering to overloading your bioload is not sound advice. People do it all the time is something I would expect to hear from the LFS guy, not somebody who has been gathering information from experienced reef-keepers for months, as you have been.
No offence intended, so don't fly off the band wagon as a lot of people do when I make these sort of comments. You hafta admit "people do it all the time" is an irresponsible piece of advice.
I could put 45 inches of fish in my tank and then ask what more can I add if this were on a bigger scale!!

i think as those others, but a chocolate star is awesome. some say it's hard to take care of, but mine is pretty cool and easy. :happyfish That is a lot of fish for that size tank tho:notsure:

You didnt read my hole post "SMALL" fish was the point made there. And it could work and yes you can go over or under just not by alot. An inch or two isnt gonna make a diffrence.

okay, lets keep it calm and civilized
:scared: and say that if you add more than one more small fish, it'll be bad when they grow older. Either get 1 small perc or 1 small goby, not both, preferably neither, but if you must add, those are IMO the best candidates.

Thank you all for your info. i realize that i have a small tank, so i decided to go reef. I know that i cant have very many fish, but was just wondering if i would be able to safely add another fish and if so what type. It seems that everyone pretty much agrees that i cant *safely* add any more fish, so i wont. Any suggestions on corals? my lighting isnt the greatest (there are 2 50/50 cf with 36 watts each for the 20 gal display), but any info would help.
Thanks again!

Im still gonna push it. If you have good filtration and a skimmer and do weekly water changes I dont think there is any reason you couldnt.
And with thoughs lights you can pretty mutch keep the coralline algea growing on the rocks and that about it.
