Recomended RO for small tank?

Wow, wonder if I'll get one as well? Anyway, the size of the tank really doesn't matter IMO when it comes to a RO/DI unit. I have a 100gpd unit so this means I can fill a 5g bucket in a little over an hour. A 50gpd unit would take you about 2 1/2 hours to fill a 5g bucket...
Some here have been finding RO units on the auction site.
I have a Typhoon III (RO/DI Unit) and love it. You should at least take at look at the Typhoon III before you buy any other unit just to compare. Some things to look for are, auto shutoff valve, DI Unit!!!!, Backflush valve, replacement filters (the typhoon is a standard size which means other filters are interchangeable), TDS meter, Pressure gage and the gpd the unit is rated for.
Good Luck,

I got the typhoon I
My tank is small.
I checked out Kip's site. Very cool.
His post about "newbies fight it, all experanced sw folks have it" preaty much convinced me.

Plenty of wisdom in that comment.
The Typhoon I is basically the same as the Typhoon III but w/o all the accessories.
FYI, You will want a pressure gage so you know how much water pressure you are putting to the unit. Mine is rated for 75psi max so I keep the intake pressure at 65psi... 55psi and under will not hurt it but it will slow the production.

Are those RO/DI units easy to install yourself or do you need a plumber? Also, where is a good site to buy the Typhoon III and approx how much is it? TIA!

I don't recommend RO water for any tank. Money is better spent on other things such a larger tank, better lights or a refugium

Bob... really now.... do you think it is best to be advising such information?
To anyone else... if you are interested in an RO/DI unit... it is the best investment you will make... I and countless others stand by them.
For some reason, Bob doesnt like them and there is no rationale why.

Kip: the rational was in my original post. $400.00 will buy a much larger tank, really good lighting, or even another complete system.
Any water fit for human consumption if fit for any tank. Even the copper is filtered out very quickly. It makes no sense to strip out the calcium, magnesium, and other necessary trace elements.

Even the copper is filtered out very quickly.
then drop some copper pipe in your tank and see if it is true

Thank you all for your posts.
I bought the typhoon I.
I'm pretty handy, so the install was a snap.
BOB: I respect your opinion, however I would submit the following points..
1. I got the biggest tank that space in my den will allow.
2. I'm spending money on all those other things as well!
3. I'm so new to this that any little thing will help.
Kip: Should I change the filters annualy, as suggested, or based on actual volume of water produced?

You made and excellent choice with the Typhoon. I have the Typhoon III and it is great. I think Kip hit the filters pretty well, but the membrane I think lasts up to 3 years. Email Walter to be sure. He is great to work with and answers all emails.
