Sea stars are incredibly susceptible to changes in salinity......and even small changes can harm them. The process of collection, transport, multiple "acclimations" between holding facilities and your LFS...all these things can often cause osmotic shock....which is usually fatal to the star.
Some stars are tougher than others, but ironically many of the "pretty" stars we like for our tanks (blue linkias, fromias, etc) are pretty delicate in this matter. Serpent stars, on the other hand, are usually pretty resilient.

Man, I hate it when people stand up and get in a picture when you're trying to take a photo of the game. Ugh, people are so thoughtless.

Nice starfish.

Oh, no...I totally got that. I was just responding to your post as to why I'm usually so hesitant about sea stars.
Personally I'm hoping to be able to keep a blue linkia eventually also. Got a while before I can even consider that, tho. Show us some pics once it's been acclimated!

What do you mean? As in, will it eat the clam?
No. That's a different species of Seastar, and IIRC they're coolwater stars.

Starting a new LED project. My electric bill came out to 200 dollars for the consecutive months and something needs to be done. (at least, that's what I'm telling myself lmbo)

Good idea. I ran a power estimate on my setup and I'm guessing the tank (with LEDs!) is going add $50 to my monthly bill. What is your lighting setup now? Nevermind...going to your other link.

Eh, I live in a hot, humid area of Louisiana. I live in a tiny apartment and I do have a tank running right now - my bill is around $50 a month at the highest. I have gotten $12 electric bills in December / January. So, I know my tank doesn't add that much electricity to my overall bill...

I currently have dual 150w MH setup with 4 t5 light set up with some LED supplemental lights.
My chiller runs for 2 hours a day and with this light I will be cutting down the power consumption by more then 50% not including the chiller so I think I'll be saving some.
Seth - I don't understand how come your bill is so low... mine is CRAZY...

Wow, that's awesome that you will be able to save so much money with the LED setup. That's why I want to get mine done for my 110g tank.
I use overhead fans... I turn off all of my stuff. I keep the lights off and open up the curtains. I have an LED TV which is a very low wattage tv... Oh, and I don't open my fridge/freezer doors unless it's cooking time. When I need to get warm in the winter, we bundle up and huddle up on the couch. We also spend a lot of time at other peoples houses, and at work/school. I also heat the kitchen / living room up with the stove - safely - since it is gas. I always turn my window units OFF .... at least 16 hours out of the day. IF my tank wasn't running right now, I think I would be running close to $34 max during Summer.
I can't afford a $200 electric bill every month... Just couldn't. lol. I'm having a hard enough time as it is financially.

.... I could teach you a thing or two about saving money. I'm great at it. My wife and I have been living on $10 a week for the last month and a half... after bills and rent is paid.

I cant imagine that. I had an electric bill as low as $40 in the very small house I used to rent.
When I moved into this extremely old house my bill was around $500 during the summer. I have done a lot of renovations but my bill is still around $200 for the house and shop behind it.
Sip- I look forward the seeing the build and results.

Seth, I'm super good at spending little to no money myself and you can ask Jeff here, he sees my facebook lol.
I used to save, save and save. Use coupons for everything and look for good deals every where to save some more.
I skimped out on our clothes, food and even on baby clothes and it's something I regret every single day with out fail. Why didn't I buy this for him, that and why did I think that was so expensive? He was worth so much more then that and he deserved so much more then that and yet at time I was so adamant that we save 20% min of my weekly paycheck (that never exists to me once I put it away) and put additional $300 every month on my mortgage. Then I used to say that I was goal driven but now I see that I was goal driven and yet short sighted
When he left me, I realized and I know it sounds very much cliche but when we leave this place, we are not taking anything with us and I want to say that I did everything I wanted in this place.
This makes me happy, gives me peace so I splurged and decided to live a little. After all, I'm working insane amount of hours and handling tremendous amount of stress every week so I feel that I deserve it. Seth, as a young father, working hard as you do, you do need your haven and comfort so don't skimp out too much on yourself.
Chiller was a good back up investment in case of ac breaks or anything in HOT and HUMID South Florida (my ac is 20 years old btw).
MH was an investment for my corals and for the overall looks for my tank (20k lights are AMAZING) but electric bill is going out of control and I will donate this to local school once I set up my LEDs. They have I believe 110 tall. If not, sell it. I will make everything that I have spent if not more.
I have been getting out of hands lately but I will be back to my saving mode shortly lol.
any how, back to the topic, stay tuned and you will see some changes!
