red algae

need to know what causes red algae.....i know it is not good for
the tank....I went by a friend house yesterday and is coral was
covered with red algae........

Are you sure it's just not brown algae? The fish will eat that, depending on what your friend has, of course.

Try less raw foods and giving about 6-8 hrs of lighting the next few days and also check your nitrate levels to see if you need a water change as well.

Make sure your friend has enough water current. Red algae likes to grow in dead spots.

ok that is cyto alge, it is actualy not a alge. but what i found out IME is that if you feed frozen food the alge will bloom from feeding on the extra nutrients. also old lights and bad water flow will help the cyto. find the source

here is a nice thread that helped me tons! this stuff was ruling my tank and i added a refuge and did some tweeking with food and lighting and now all i have is a little spot of it :jumping:
