Been getting a lot of red algae accumilation in tank (on sand bed and live rocl) seems to be in a blanket form - has been happening for quite some time now and goes away when I mix sand up but back soon after. Any solutions or way to remove? Details of tank are as follow:
72 Gallon bow front with 1.5" sand bed and approx 100 pounds of live rock
Tank setup for over 4 years now
2 power heads and protein skimmer
wet / dry filter
UV Sterilizer
Water check today showed:
Ammonia: 0, Nitrites: .1, PH: 8.0, Phosphates: 0, Nitrates: 5

Ron I too have a 72. You say two powerheads??? How much flow do they make. In my 72 I have four Maxi jet 1200's PLUS a loop system with well over 1000 gallons of flow in adition to the four MJ's....... The first thing I would look at is dead spots in your water. More flow almost always helps with this issue. BTW.. Welcome to the boards....... Warren

Yeah I think you are right - 2 PW isnt enough to do it. I am not sure of their flow rate but I probably need to move more water around
