First I started having red hair algae. It mostly brushes off. Now, I have green hairy algae that does not want to come off. It is growing on my LR, feather duster, and corals. Any ideas?

Give some tank info, like:
How old?
Stocking?
What water you use?
Lighting?
Phosphates?
Etc....

My tank is a 37 tall. It has been set up 5 yrs. now. I do weekly water changes with RO. The salinity is 1.025, ph at 8.4, alk at 2.2 (low), and phosphate usually runs at .03, which is a bit high. If I use carbon it goes up to 1.0. I have lots of live rock and soft corals. I have 60 watts of lighting. The mushrooms and corals do not like high wattage. This is the only test I have done. I used Kent A & B daily. I have very pretty coraline algae, with green hair on many of them. I hope I remembered all your questions.
GUESS WHAT? I just noticed that all the green hairy algae has long 1" white strings growing in it. What is it???

I have been told today by 2 manufacturers that the green hair is from high phosphates and low alk. Also, that I should up my Salinity. I am hesitant on that one. My alk has been low so much of the last 6 months. I have started adding extra Kent part B, plus Magnisium. I hope this is ok to do. What do you think?

Beth, where are you? You helped me a few years back and I know you are an expert on any tank problems.
