is there such a thing? I have a small rock with Athenia on it, and these red ball like bubbles. They range from tiny to about the size of a marble. I picked a few off, and when I did, one broke open, and they was a jell like substance inside. Anyone have and ideas

I will try of a picture later.

Yes, there is. Red bubble algae will take your take by storm if you allow it to.
There are several causes I think - primarily poor water quality or weak lighting. If you remove it, you need to try to do this without breaking it open. I am no expert on algae but I have read that breaking the bubbles open allow the algae to reproduce more quickly and in other parts of your tank.

I had a lot of red bubble algae in my tank. From my research a foxface is about the only thing that will take care of it. I got one and it took care of all the red bubble algae in my tank in less than a week. HTH.

Thanks, It came with the coral. Its just getting bigger on that one rock. I will take it out of tank and pick what I can off. I will add an emerald also. Cant do any of the fish, as this is a 37 gal tank.

IME with green bubble algae (hair also), emeralds never touched the stuff.
i think everyone recomends them because theyve seen others reccomend them, and so on, but only a few really do eat it... JMO
