Is red alage good or bad? I'm starting to get some on my lr, and some of it has came off and floating around in the tank. I scooped it out. Should I have?

our nitrate has been a little high it's has been at 20 for about a week. we did a 5 gallon water exchange a couple of days ago and we will do another one tomorrow. but everything else is testing good. what will the red alage do? just curious. also we have some green alage put it kinda looks like a plant like little leaves or something. do you know of a site with pic's of alage?
