Hey all,
I've had and issue w/ this redish/purple algae that clumps up in a ball and seems to grow like wildfire....What is this stuff and what eats it??? I did a search on here and google for quite some time and couldnt figure anything out. I can supply a pic if no one knows what i'm talkin about
Thanks!

Any kind of bad algae that is in your tank comes from poor water quality, over feeding and lights usually. I would check and see if the light bulbs need changing, cut down on feeding and just keep up on water changes with ro or ro/di water. If you do all of that you should see the algae start to receed. It will take time but will work!! HTH

im sure it's the light. I just upgraded from pc to mh. The water quality is pretty good, also. Do you happen to know what this stuff is called?

Iam color blind so red brown its all the same to me. Anything thats hairy I just call hair algae. You could purchase a lawnmower blenny but they are not full proof. I do agree its your lights . Just cut back on the hours you run them for a week or so to let your tank acclimate to them and you should see some improvement. Adding some flow may help also. I had a break out of hair algae and cyno from not doing any water changes for 4 months and it took me about 5 months to get my tank back in shape and I still have a little bit of hair algae. I figure another month and i should be home free.
