Does anyone know why one of my red leg hermit crab
would cover their shell and leave only his/her head out of
the sand. I just notices it their about a day ago.

I am not sure. But, I have seen mine mistakenly covered up by something else. A fish may have kicked up some sand, etc. Surprisingly, he got himself out two days later and went on his way. I didn't pick him out because he was in a precarious spot, and stayed alive. I think he just sat there eating.

I think red legs are more active at night, atleast mine seem to be. Every time that i turn off the lights the crabs start moving about.
I too have seen my red legs bury them selves in the sand, its kinda funny to see. He will usually sit there for a while and by the end of the day or by the next day he has moved on to a new location.
