Red Lionfish?

my lfs has a small lion and its name is a red lion ive never heard of a red lion its $36 it looks like a voilitan but much nicer color on the finns is that a good price?

Hmm, my lfs carries them at $30. My old lfs had them at that price.

also i hear that dwarf lions top fins are only poison is this true and that there sides arent?

They have a spine on their top that stings you. So yes they cant sting you from the sides but i wouldnt care one way or the other, im not tuching one

It could either be a Red Morph of the Volitan Lion (look for black spots on Tail and bottom fins).
Or it could be a Russels Lionfish (look for missing eyebrow guards, no black spots, an webbing between the side fins).
Russels don't get as big and are more crustation (sp) eaters than Volitans.

it could be a volitan lfs dont always mark the fish proper but check out this info sheet it will show various lions.and the difference between some species
