I have a purple reef lobster and he is very quiet. Doesn't bother anything. Only really see him when I feed the tank. other than that, he stays in his cave system that he has worked beneith the rocks.

Rappa,
Thanks for the information. I want to have one in my tank but need to make sure I am not creating a problem. Way to easy to do that.
I lived in MA for 24 years
been gone for 5
and can not wait to get back.

I know a guy who has the red reef lobster. It comes right out when he feeds the tank. It's really pretty cool.

Hey hag,
Sounds like this lobster is pretty quite and does not bother anyone. Thanks for the info.

I think I'd be a little cautious, especially if you have small or slow fish. Or fish that might sleep near it's lair. The one I know of is full grown and has never hurt anything. The fish are decents size (probably at least 4-5 inches each).

I have a mated pair of gold band maroon that houst and anemone on the very top of some rocks and one chromis that does not come out much anymore.
4-5 inches is a bit to large I think.... hummmm may need to research some more.
Thanks

I have a purple lobster that doesn't bother anything.
The only time I see him though is when I'm rearranging rocks.

My purple doesn't bother anything either, it is always hiding, I think if it feels threatened is the only time he gets aggressive.

Do you literally only see him when rearranging rocks? I'd love to have one, but I don't want to have to take the reef apart to view him for a minute or two.

Yes. He hides ALL the time. I see him maybe 3 times a month but he hides again as soon as he sees me! I'm thinking about setting up my 20 gallon for him. I read on here a long time ago that if you have them in a smaller tank you can arrange the cave so that you can see into it.

They really aren't worth getting. You just don't get to see them enough. It is a conversation piece more than anything else.
"Oh yeah and I have a Lobster in there too."
"You do?"
"Yes I do"
"Well where is it?"
"If you stare at this cave for like 6 hours, you might see him show a claw."
"Oh"
