So is the lighting on the RSM enough for clams and other that need more lighting or will I have to upgrade it?

Ok so if I get the RSM what is a good upgrade on the lights and water flow or will I be ok. I just seems that the lighting and water flow is higher on the JBJ HQI. I dont know to much about these just looking for input.

I dont know much about the two. I hear good things about both. Though a word of advice you may want to consider is the heat factors and research those between the two tanks. Running an enclosed hood unit could heat the tank up quite a bit especially running Metal Hallide lamps. For some its not an issue, others need to make modifications to their hood or have to buy a chiller. Something to keep an mind as you figure out which one you want. Best of luck, you will learn a lot on here.

Sounds like your up and serious for the ultimate Nano!
Keep researching so you dont regret your decision. Like I said, both are nice tanks, its gonna be a hard choice.

I think the RSM has a much better sump design in the back. A very large-capacity skimmer as opposed to the 24 hqi which has no skimmer. Also, the RSM has everything built-in, but the JBJ is an electrical cord nightmare. I also really like the depth of the RSM. The T5's will handle a lot of the stuff you put in there, but it does limit you a little on certain types of clams that need a very high-output lamp. In my mind, the only down side to the RSM is the lights aren't HQI. But having an HQI in there will pretty much require you to get a chiller, which is hundreds more, and also causes a higher power bill. I mean, it's like getting an air-conditioning unit for your tank and running it all the time - all for a certain type of clam... A little excessive in my opinion. I think it's the corcea species of clam you can keep in the RSM, but the maxima's are the ones that need higher intensity light.
All things considered, the RSM does much better across the board. And because of the T5's you don't need a chiller.
Here's a pic of my RSM. I love it!

If I get the nanocube I will get the 28 which has the skimmer with it. THe tank is like 3 hundard cheeper so that would pay for the chiller. but you tank looks really good. I also like the depth of the RSM

to be honest you wont even need a skimmer for the nano cube. Ive had mine up a running for awhile now. Just make sure you do weekly 20% waterchanges

year of the nick was saying that the RSM the wiring was all built in. I was wondering if that was everything or if the lights were on there own cord? I was looking at getting a controler for the tank.

IMO get the 28 gallon HQI nano. I have one and I LOVE it!! The RSM can't really keep the higher end SPS or the clams that require intense lighting. If you get a chiller you wont need to make any mods except one which is add a light in the back for some chaeto and maybe add a power head or 2 if you go full SPS. Another great thing about the 28 gall HQI is that its cheaper than the RSM and you can keep ANYTHING in the 28 gall HQI, coral/invert wise. The only mods I did is add a nice fan in the back, add a light for some chaeto, raise the hood 2.5 inches and add 1 power head for some extra flow. I don't have any heating problems and I don't have a chiller. My tank is a mixed reef(Softies, Leathers, LPS, SPS, Clams, Gorgonians). I have 43 different kinds of corals in my 28 gallon HQI... lol I need to let my corals grow out... Here is a link to my 28 gallon HQI nano.

Also, another thing you should do if you get the 28 gallon HQI is change the stock bulb for a phoenix 14k when you just get the tank or in 3-4 months.

Nice tank coral keeper. Thanks for the input. I hear that the protein skimmer is loud on the JBJ HQI is that true?

The skimmer in the JBJ is terrible... it's just an airstone in a tube. The skimmer on the RSM has a big pump that mixes the microbubbles and does an extremely better job at skimming than the JBJ. Seriously, it wouldn't make much of a difference if the JBJ skimmer was in there or not.

On the wiring on the RSM how does that plug in? Are the lights on a diff cord than the pump?
