Nice tank coral keeper. Thanks for the input. I hear that the protein skimmer is loud on the JBJ HQI is that true?
Thanks! It isn't loud at all. You can't even hear it. lol If you tune the skimmer it will work pretty good.

On the wiring on the RSM how does that plug in? Are the lights on a diff cord than the pump?
Each wire has it's own switch... there's a cluster of switches all together on the right back side of the tank.
From top to bottom, these are individual switches that you see...
1. Lights
2. Skimmer
3. heater
4. Powerhead 1
5. Powerhead 2
And there's a single cord that comes out the side for you to plug in. Pic 1 and 2 (below) are of the switches with the door open and shut. Note the single electrical cord that comes out the bottom. That's the one you plug into the wall.
The third pic is of the timer on the back top of the tank... You can set it to control when the lights go on and off. The timer has a 3-way switch in the middle of the timer dial that can allow you to override the timers light schedule whenever you need, allowing you to choose to keep the lights always off, always on, or whatever the timer is set for. The switch next to the timer is for the moon lighting, which are never on when the main lights are on.
As you can see, it's a truly excellent all-in-one system... they really thought of everything.

That is a nice set up. The only down side to it that I see is that the moon lights are not on a timer. And that the lights are not as strong as the JBJ HQI. I think that Im starting to lean more so on the side of the RSM

Yeah I have looked on there I just never seen that it came with the heater. Does anyone no if there is a bolt on upgrade for the lights on the RSM?

There is but it's expesnive... try googling something like nano-mods.com or something like that. You'll find all kinds of cool mods for the RSM and other nano tanks.

FWIW I keep a maxima clam on the sand bed in my Red Sea Max that's happy and healthy. I also purchased a small 3" frag of montipora a few months ago that's growing out quite well, probably 5" to 6" inches now. It's at the top of my rockwork though.
Good luck with your choice.
