Anyone with a functioning Prizm skimmer,Does your collection cup fill up with water in like 5 minutes?? Mine does and not sure if this is normal :notsure:

No that is not normal. You need to turn down the flow regulator - the black knob on the tube pulling water from your tank. I would turn it until the flow is almost zero. Say 3 oclock. Wait a couple of minutes for the bubbles in the see through neck to settle then inch it up to 4 oclock. If it fills too quickly turn it back a little. Too slowly, move it up a little. Until you get a feel for where it works.

you are supposed to use to prime the pump. Let it run for about 10 min then turn the flow knob so the water is just under the o ring in the neck. Move the air hose to the air

and inch it up slightly barely past straight across. You should be able to see a few bubbles in the neck. Let it run for a couple of hours then bump it up a hair if needed. Mine fills the collection cup every 3 or 4 days with almost coffee colored liquid. Every now in then I have happen what is happening to you. Really turning it down should fix it.

The bubbles are suppose to reach about half way and eventually you will bet getting dry bubble which is good.

If you really don't want it to overflow. I have two protein skimmers on my 55 gallon tank but one of them is a Red Sea Prizm Deluxe. The chamber that the bubbles fome out of should not be to high because it will fill up the colletion cup way to fast. You want to see lots of brownish stuff and dirty water being collected and you should rinse that about every day or every other day. Also, if oyu don't have, upgrade to the deluxe. In the deluxe you can have biological media in the skimmer.

Hi, I just got a used Red Sea Prizm Energizer PS from a friend and I have no idea how to use it. Do I put any carbon in the skimmer? Is it also a HOB filter or do i need one? I have a sump under the tank so I am not sure if I need a HOB filter. I was looking at the Aquaclear 500 ( I have a 90 gallon). At the current time, it is filling up with water so I really need to get my act together and add a filter. Now since it is a brand new tank and is just starting the cycling, I dont really need a PS at this time right?
Thanks :help:
