well my serpant star lost a leg. i have had him about a year no problem. loosing the leg is not the problem though..........the leg has been alive and moving around for 3 weeks. it even wraps itself around food. it has no body is this normal.

I'm surprised that the disc wasn't needed to keep the leg alive..is any of the disc attached??
I kind of wonder if there will be a new star out of that leg :)

Yeah keep us posted. I don't think there are many cases of a whole new starfish regenerating in captivity (if any). Keep a close eye on both. The ray (leg) can keep moving for a while but will probably eventually rot and die, as too could the starfish. Hopefully it will grow a new ray and all will be ok.

yes it is definatley odd....when i feed my starr comes out and the leg just keeps reaching for food and there is absolutly no part of the body on the leg.....about an hour ago it was wrapping around a hermit the hermit was trying to get away. when it finaly freed itself it looked like the leg was following him...odddd
