Red Slime

Hey guys,
I found a crap ton of red slime in my refigum....but theres NONE in my main tank...anyone know if this is a bad thing?...i took the rocks out that had the slime on them and washed them to get all the slime off....
any thoughts?

I'll bump this for ya, I think coraline comes shortly after it. Diatom, Hair, Slime, then Coraline. It's the 3rd stage right before coraline. I scrub it off but it comes right back--coraline is slowly starting to take over though.

that it the oddest thing i have heard. diatoms yes we all get those but the rest is nothing that is in stages. i have never had hair algea nor does it have anything to do with getting coralline. coralline thrives off of Ca and hair and red slime thrive off of nutes in the water.
they have nothing to do with eachother

i have trates that are traceable, there not high though...but i've been doing water changes with RO water...and i've noticed my trates go down ...and my CA is always high...i dont dose...but they stay around 410.

my tank did same thing my refrug had red slime and was killing my calerpa and main tank had not one spec of slime I used teh red slime treatment work awesome treated whole tank all is gone only took a day just make sure you watch your protein skimmer if you use the stuff for it make ht eskimmer reallly pull alot out and will over flow you'll need to reduce teh air flow to the skimmer

I did a 27 gallon water change today with ro water...hopefully that will help out a bit...its been about 35/40 days since my last water change.

OK, I had the same problem several months ago, It turned out that my problem was the duration of light in the fuge. I shortened it to about 10 hrs a day and every thing cleared up on its own in a bout a week. I read somewhere that you can turn the lights out for a few days and this will accelarate the process.

I do leave my lights on 24/7 in my fuge.
not because i mean to...but i simply forget to shut it off during the day...and i leave them on at night to balance my ph

Yes, get a timer. I suggest putting every light you have on a timer including fish only tanks and even freshwater. It just saves time and hassle.

i have every light on a timer except the refugium...i have no idea why i never thought of it...man im retarded.
