i have a 12 g cube that is 5 days old. the tank is cycled and has 10 pounds of ls, 15 pounds of lr, royal gramma, and percula clown. a few minutes ago i checked the the tank and the sand had started to turn a light red color. can anyone tell me what this is and how to fix it? any help would be apppreciated.

cynobacteria not good to have.but since it's a new tank you are gonna have a few battles with it and algae....increase water flow and try to remove it if you can

get another power head or point the one you have towards it....another option ...get yourself some sand sifting creatures......do a search for "cyno" on here and there are tons of tips and help for this....try not to use any chemicals in there either....according to others it just helps temp.

If all else fails... like in my case, then I would suggest chemiclean red slime remover. I used a tiny bit once and it went away that day. I have never had a break out of the cyno since...and that was about 6 months ago.

I bought mine from a fish store so I'm not sure where online you can find it. I'm sure if you google it you could find it. before you buy it try doing what people told you to do first...cut down on light, get better water flow etc..... oh and if your feeding your fish flakes then get rid of those and use formula one frozen food or pellets.

If I were you I would cut back on the feedings to ATLEAST once daily, if not once every other day. That could be a part of the problem too. I feed my reef only once a week.
