I'm starting to notice my substrate turning red. Almost seems as if its been an overnight thing. I have mostly live sand. Is this a bad algea? Is this a bad problem? What do I do to fix the problem?
Thanks

it could be cyano bacteria (algae), it really isnt good for your sytem. did you use tapwater to fill your tank? do you have light sensitive organisms in there that would be affected terribly if you backed down your lighting? do you have a clean up crew going?

Yes I used tap water.
I have a few snails and about 5 or 6 hermit crabs.
I don't have any corals so I could cut back on the lighting.
