Reef Ready Oceanic's

I have read some earlier posts about pre drilled tanks having problems with a waterfall effect/noise coming from the built in overflow. I just got my 135g RR Oceanic last week, havent set it up yet, I wont actually for a few more months. My question is, in those previous posts, people just extended a pipe up to the water line. Well, the tube that came with it was perferated all the way to the top, and had a prefilter to go on the side. Am I going to have this same problem? SHould I just replace that tube with a new one? Or will this let the overflow partion fill to the top, eliminating any unwanted noise? Any Ideas?

yes it will sound like a water fall.or maybe a flushing toylet like mine did.i have a oceanic 58 reef ready and the noise is almost unbearable until you fix it.i use a modified durso stand pipe and the only thing i hear is the soft hum from my return pump.i accually modified the durso pipe to use the prefilter sponges that come with it.i also made mine fill up the over flow so there is only like a 2 inch drop at the most.

i did my own piping, just set the return tube almost at the very top. makes life alot easier that way. a friend of mine also pulled his refugium pipe directly out of his tank this way.

Durso's Stand Pipe will fix the problem. I am setting up a Oceanic 175BF RR. I had the same problem. I found this link and built two of these stand pipes for $12 total. After they were in I had a problem of the water in the overflow raising and lowering. I drilled an additional hole in the cap of the standpipe and all is well. My wife is really happy without the waterfall and toilet sound.

Give it a shot. It took me 20 minutes to build both. I am very happy

My tank has the overflow box in the back and I do get a lot of water noise? How would this systemwork for me? would I have to plug the hole in the bottom and put a new one in the side?
