if you dont have any small fish a tesslata eel is reef safe because the dont eat inverts but when the curise they might nock over a coral or too thats really the only problem

Pebble-toothed eels (such as snowflake eels) are pretty safe around fish, so long as you keep them well fed. And eels aren't going to ever start eating your corals, so don't worry about that. But the reason eels are considered not "reef safe" is because they knock over rockwork all the time, even the small eels.

there is another "reef safe eel" that I have been thinking about acquiring. Its a dwarf moray. Grows to about 10 inches full growth. Diameter of a husky pencil and is a vivid orange color. Only problem is they hide accordign to literatire. Big $$$ investment to never see Cheapest I've seen them is $150 bucks....

As far as cleaner shrimp go, it really depends on the species. I've kept eels with cleaner shrimp for years, some don't last days. It depends on your specific specimen, and probably when you introduce each as well.

do eels stress the bioload as much as a fish does? how should that be counted in with the 1" per 5 gallons rule??

Cleaner shrimp are usally left alone by BIG fish that eat invets becasue they clean them and in return htey get food and arn't eaten.....Fish that arn't going to outgrow the shrimp size arn't cleaned by them as often so there more likely to eat them....IGNOR EVERYTHING I SAID it didn't come out right...But if you can figure it out good luck

Yes, eels eat meat, which stresses the bioload far more than fish who eat flake. Aggressive fish create waste higher in nitrates since there's a lot in silversides, krill, meat and such that cannot be used by the body and isnt as fully digested before you know what.
