hello again latino. i didn't end up getting the water yesterday, because my light still hasnt come (was shipped seperatly) and because of july 4th its not gonna be here untill July 6th! Do you need lights for LR? I heard to have it on for a maximum of 4 hours while your cycling with LR + LS. Also, I've heard many opposing oppinions, I was planning on buying cured LR, but others say just get the uncured, it may smell bad, but its bettter for cycling. but couldn't i get bad hitchhikers on uncured rock.. im confused!

you don't need you light to start the cycle. the only reason I can think of to have lighting for your cycle is to keep the coralin (sp?) looking good.... but that big of a deal

I bought cured from and LFS and from a friend... but the only reason i did that was because the tank started out as an aggessive with a fluidized bed for bio filter

So you recommend i buy uncured and then have the powerheads blowing on it and just do small water changes weekly or daily to take out the die-off?

yeah... just put everthing in. set the PH the way you want them and then forget about it for about. 4-6 week. just test the water. don't do any WC until the tank finishs cycling.

lol oh ya forgot you liked the ???????
after my tank is cycled from the uncured LR im gonna get i might have some more, but for now, i have one question, is there any different procedure I would have to do for cycling my tank with cured rock vs uncured rock?

well. the difference would be the lenth of the cycle. I have heard of people buying lr form there lfs and putting it right in the DT and having a cycle of only a couple of days... if that. if you use cured lr test your water every 2 days... if your cycle does not start on it's own.... then add a coctail shrimp

so how I see it is that uncured rock is faster and cheaper, but could come with bad hitchikers? cured rock is slower, more expensive, and no hitchikers.. hmm.. lol

no.... the other way around uncured. has more die off so you'll have a longer cycle. Cure (from LFS) has a shorter cycle because it has less die off

Actually... Me personally no. I like useing pre-cured... like from this site. you get more hitchhikers. and it's cheaper. put if you want a faster cycle.... go with the fully cured

Hey fishman...Just want to let you know..that My experience with the cherub was not that great..He was a beautiful fish, and very entertaining..for awhile..never had any probs with corals...but he was way too aggressive for the other fish..chased several of them til they finally jumped out..I blame him for the loss of my 6 line wrasse, my fairy wrasse, and my jawfish, before he made the trip back to the LFS...after what seemed like years,(LOL), of trying to catch him...just letting you know of my experience...good luck..And I would buy uncured rock...the exta life you will end up getting is well worth it..too me, anyway..All the rock I have, 150lbs., was uncured and alot of it was florida rock, and never got a bad hitchhiker...anyway ..goodluck, sounds like you are on top of it....My only other suggestion would be..start planning room for the 55 or the 75 or the 125, whatever is next...This is a "BAD" habit...just ask my wife....LOL

lol i have a 75 FOWLR at the moment, but I'm gonna have to probably get a 150 or 125 because my lionfish and queen angel are gonna outgrow that tank

Also, I was gonna add my cherub last, so maybe that would make him less agreessive toward the tank mates

okay reef tank is officially being started, adding the water now (35 gallons to leave 5 gallons for sand + rock) once water is in today, I'm gonna put the wave maker in to make sure it works and keep a little movement in the water, ordering the LR from this site tonight, bought 40 lbs of argonite live reef sand at LFS and will add that after I get the LR that im ordering tonite (probably get its july 6th due to the holiday) Thats the plan for now!
