Reef Safe Triggers

I was wondering out of the few reef safe triggers which one is your favorite? Is it your favorite bc of its looks or its personality? Also I'm planning on adding one to my tank, do you think I should add it last...are the reef safe triggers relatively aggressive?

I had a pink tail trigger. He was fine for a while but the he started nipping at coral. My colt, xenia, and monti's. He never messed with my shrimp though, i did see him carring around a couple hermit crabs. I also had a blue throat and he was the best fish. He never messed with anything and he had a great personality. But I think it is just luck of the draw with triggers.

my niger and blue jaw/throat are great in my reef. not aggressive and they havent touched a single coral. my koran angel on the other hand was a nuisance and had to be removed.

i was wondering of gettin a niger trigger. i love the colours and the look of it:)
i was wondering tho,
i've got 2 true perc clowns about 1.5" long
and a sixline wrasse like 2" long
will it nip at them at all? i used to have a picasso (humu humu) and had to get rid of it cos it kept trying to nip the clowns.
and it was a small one too
ps, sorry i know this doesnt help you at all

I think the only way to find out is get your fish you want and put him in there you may have to do like I did and start an aggresive tank too.....but yes some will be fine and others you will have to pull all up to the fish you get and his personality and if he plays well with others.

My Hawaiian Trigger picked off all 20 hermits I had in my 240g in less then 2 weeks.
My question is how would a sand sifting goby do in with a trigger?? Also have a coral beauty, maroon clown, blue hippo, yellow tang, and a Naso tang.

On a compatiblity chart I just looked at it says caution required. I'd say post a thread and ask if ppl keep sand sifting gobies with triggers and what are their experiances.

The niger triggers aren't known for being reef safe but some ppl have success with keeping them in reefs.
im not sure where you heard this but thats a false statement.
you can tell a reef safe trigger from a non-reef safe by the location of their mouth. reef safe are pointed up and non-reef safe are pointed straight out.

ive treid them all. Some will leave your reef alone but they will eat your owther fish. Some will eat your reef, and some will just eat both.

next time you go to the LFS look at the Picasso's, Clowns, Nigers, Pink Tails, Blue Throats, etc.
you will notice that the Picasso's and Clowns have mouths that point straight out.
the nigers, pink tails, and blue throats have a mouth that is facing upward

really no trigger is considered "reef safe" it is all by trial and error. Some people get luck with niger's, my opinion I wouldn't really try it but if your heart is set on a trigger (because they are beautiful fish). They say and I have friends that have blue throat triggers in there reef with great success. Maybe look into those. Just my .02
