I'm new to the site, and my dad just started a 75 gallon tank. Hes had salt water tanks before but when i was really young. I was just wondering what exactly does Reef Safe mean when it comes to fish. I don't live at home, but would like to buy a lionfish for my own viewing whenever i go over and visit lol. I was just wondering what exactly that meant, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Reef safe means that it is okay to put with corals and invertebrates like shrimp. As for a lionfish, the only thing that makes it not reef safe is the fact that it will eat shrimp and smaller fish.

what kind of room do they need?? do they need like an open spot, cause the way my dad has it setup, there is very little open floor, there is a lot of like dead coral i guess, and other things

well they like to hang out in caves. If he does not have caves, I would not recommend it.. They do not like like, so during the day, they prefer to be in a cave.

lol sounds good. They are a very cool fish. For a tank that size, I would highly recommend a fuzzy dwarf lionfish. They are very nice, personal fish and they will never outgrow the 75. Plus they are one of the least aggresive types.

A volitan would outgrow that tank eventually and have to be moved. It could be kept in there for a while but definitely would have to moved to a bigger tank with a year to two, whereas a fuzzy dwarf would never have to be moved.

well aren't you the bearer of bad news :p i don't like them as much, but i guess you have to live with what you can get, what size do the fuzzy dwarf grow to be?

Just one more question, i was just wondering if you knew of a site that sold artificial items for your tank.. like a cave or something that i could put in that a lion fish would love.. this is a general question for anyone.
