Reef Safe?

Once again I seem to have gotten my self into trouble. Well today I checked my LFS for any new fish and I found a flame angel. Now I don't know about your guy's Lfs but this is the first flame angel my LFS has gotten in a flame angel since last year. Anyways I reserved him. So now I need to know if flame angels pick at corals? I was told they were reef safe but I don't always trust their opinions. Any help would be greatly appreciated~!

A flame angle, like most dwarf's,will eat your corals. I wouldn't risk it. My LFS has them all the time. Kinda pricy though, $70. STEVE

Thanks Mr. Salty but there is no turning back now they're having it shipped to me. I got him for $50. I suppose I'll find out in a couple days. I had a coral beauty for a couple weeks and he didn't bother any of my corals. Sorry to here you lost your flame angel so quickly JTOLIVOR.

Hi,
generally pygmy angels are OK but not all the time. They usually will not decimate a reef but may pick at something here and there. I have a flame angel in my reef, occasionally he has a bit of a nip at my open brain but other than that he is fine, and in my tank I've got SPS, LPS, and soft corals.
Regards,
Tom

I have had a flame angel in a reef system and he ws fine. Occasionaly pecked at tiny new polyp growth bu never any main colonies. Generally I would say reef-safe.

Thats where experiance pays. Books and species charts say they pick at corals and are not advisable for reefs(not reef safe) But if you guys have had them, and say there cool,Thats all I need to know.....That's when BB's pay off. I've wanted a flame, but was afraid to add one. STEVE

they are ok as long as their are no other dwarf angels in the tank as they are the most aggressive of the dwarf angels. and they are reef safe.
