Reflecting the light?

I read a lot on on this forum, more than i actually write, and i can not say i have seen a post on this topic, now either i am over thinking this, making a fool of myself or just missing all the posts that have to do with this..... does glass between the lights on an aquarium effect the efficency of the lights?

You will see a big decrease in light if you use glass tops.

so what is the best way to go about lighting? do you just leave the top of your tank open?

exactly, it is also much better for gas exchange also with an open top..easier for heat to get out of water so your tank doesnt heat up, etc.

You can build a canopy and bolt everything to the top of it,I guess.
How many inches above the tank should the lights hang??
so no water splash hit the lights.
