Refractometer broken?

I have started trying to purchase some of the equipment I need to start a tank and unfortunately my children found my refractometer.

They broke off the piece of plastic that lays down over the end. Can I use it without this or is it completely broken now?

i believe u need it to smoosh down the water so it doesnt roll off the end

Or you can just manually put the plastic piece down over tip. Your call. You can make it work!
