I am kinda curious about these. I am also fed up with my hydromoeter, i am pretty sure that it is inaccuarte as i have checked it against the ones at my LFS. This is actually strange, at the LFS in my niegboorhood, they use five (5), yes FIVE hydromoeters to test the same tank water. and get this . . . all five read differently!!! So , my question is, who uses a refractometer, are some better than others, what should I look for when buying one, and wheres a good place to get one? Lots of Q's i know, but tis late in the midnight hours and thine coffee is a brewin'

Interesting.... All I use is a Coralife Deep 6. I always wondered about the accuracy, so I brought a precision hydrometer home from work that had just come back from being calibrated and certified. Much to my surprise, they read the same!
We use refractometers at work, and they work very well, provided you follow the instructions exactly, and keep them clean.

Refractometers are very accurate however if price is a problem go with the glass floating hydrometer. They are more accurate than the swing arm.

Justin x I just moved from royal oak to oxford-about 15 min north of the Palace. I work all over though as I am an electrician. Any good lfc's in the northville area? My brother in law lives in novi and am out there quite a bit.

jja,
no, not really in northville area. There are two main places that i go to around here. Pet Connection on five mile and middlebelt, and The Fish Doctors in Ann Arbor. Also, tropicorium in Romulus has AWESOME, i mean AWESOME stuff. (over 40,000 gallons of water in that place!!!) Anyway, i have heard of a place in east lansing called peruses or something, thats supposed to be a good place too.
