commercial PB does not need to go in the fridge, however, once opened, if not used within 3 months it should be placed in the fridge to prevent loss in taste
the natural PB that seperates should be kept in the fridge- it is not
processed to hell and gone and will spoil. keeping it in the fridge will help with the oil seperation
hope this helps
I too leave butter out on the counter. I have done that all of my 45 years and never got a bug.
Looking at my fridge door...
PB - No
Jelly - Yes after opening
Maple Syrup - No (good ole Log Cabin)
Flavored Syrup - Yes after opening (blueberry smuckers)
Salad Dressing - Yes after opening, not before
Ketchup - Yes after opening
Lemon Juice - Yes after opening
BBQ sauce - Yes...
On the Tabasco, I leave it out, but it turns brown
people at my old job kept country crock AND a stick of butter out. I can understand the butter, helps spread etc, but margarine?? no thanks.
ketchup, maple syrup, PB, not in fridge
jelly, margarine/butter, blue cheese dressing, mayonaise always.
bbq sauce, certain salad dressings (nothing with cheese in them) if i forget to put in the fridge, no biggie.
salad dressings yes, they can go bad pretty quick
pb no ewww it makes it all hard and lumpy, but if it is organic then yes because it can go rancid.
ketchup yes because i like it cold
tobasco yes same reason
syrup, no because it won't run if it is cold, but if you don't use it a lot then i would because i actually have eaten bad syrup and it caused quite a stomache ache although it didn't taste any different. It was like 2 years expired though. No i don't like to do dangerous experiments on myself, i honestly didn't notice.
Butter i would leave it out, i like it warm and soft better than cold but i keep in the refridgerator now because i dont use it very much.
anything organic gets refridgerated immediately.
PB =no
syrup =no
all others mentioned thus far = yes
I ran out of Hunts and only have the Heinz ketchup right now, but it says "For Best Results Refrigerate After Opening" right on the label. Also says "Shorter Dottle Design Fits Easily on Your Fridge Door" so it would seem that John Kerry's old lady wants the stuff put in your fridge.
PB-no It's hard enough to spread at room temp (Love me some extra chunky)
Syrup-never. Since is's pretty much pure corn syrup/sugar it isn't susceptible to spoiling
Salad dressing-always 'cause many of them have cheese and milk products in them
Butter and/or margarine-in the fridge always
Ketchup-yes-I don't use a lot of it and long time on the shelf can cause a lot of things to go bad.
Well, I have to admit, I looked at my ketchup AND syrup yesterday. The syrup is real maple syrup and it did in fact say "Refrigerate after opening", but the ketchup had no such label. In the fridge goes the syrup. Still not sure I'd want the ketchup in the pantry tho.

Ketchup = personally, I think it should be, but wifey makes me keep it out on the pantry shelf because she doesn't like cold ketchup
I agree with the wife. I don't like cold ketchup either.
And I see no point in refrigerating the syrup.
