Halogens give off a little light and a lot of heat. Unless your goal is to heat the water use flourescent, LED or HID.

I bought a plain small light fixture, like you'd use on a porch, at HD for less than $10. Then I bought a simple gro-light that cost about $6.

I don't want to sound like an idiot sorry.. but are they called gro - lights or is there another name? I mean if I went into HD and asked fro gro-lights they would know what I'm talking about?

They are called gro-lights. They are by all the other light bulbs. You can get gro-lights in flourescent type, or regular screw in type.

I was initially planning to use one of those clamp-on work lights with the aluminum shade. After I bought that and the bulb, I noticed on the package for the bulb that it said to use only ceramic fixtures, because of heat. The work light was one of the plastic type, so I went back and bought a fixture that was ceramic.
