Refugium Lighting ?

Just finished my refugium for my 125 reef tank. I’m not sure whether to leave lights on all the time or alternate with main tank lights, or turn both off at night? What’s the right thing to do, and why? :notsure:

Most who post on this forum suggest using a reverse lighting schedule for the fuge. the reason is for PH stabilization.

Plants in general need a dark cycle. I'm sure that applies to algea as well. I personally have my lights come on when my moon lights are activated in my main tank. That gives refug 12 hrs of light daily.

I asked this same question a few months ago. I used to have my lighting on a reverse schedule but changed it to 24/7 due to the majority of answers I received here. They are now lit 24/7.

Has anyone ever actually tested to see if there is a ph difference when all lights are off at once verses running the fuge lights opposite verses fuge on 24/7. What was the out come? A lot of work but anyone tried this. :notsure:

Uh yeah. That's why it is suggested to at least run them opposite. Your pH will drop at night if you have a LOT of macroalgae in your fuge and you don't have it lit when your display lights are off. The whole point is to make your pH more stable.
