Refugium. NEED HELP!!!

Hi, several days ago i set up a refugium and put some plants into it. I use 2 X 48 daylight bulbs 24 hours a day. I see some growth, but most of the refugium became coated with brown algae as well as the plants and some of it seems to be dies. What could be the problem? Maybe the lights are too strong?

could be due to the lights being on all the time. what is the spectral output of the lamps?

I would try cutting the lights back to 12 hours a day. HTH

is the refugeum a new set up? if so could be going through a cycle. usually refugeums should have the lights on all the time from what i have been told and what i have done myself for the last 5 years. you could also add an inexpensive clean up crew..just a thought..just do not let your calerpa go to seed..
