Refugium question

How deep should the substrate be in the sump/refugium? I am planning on using a type of mineral mud!!!!!!

Also since I am designing my own sump/fuge I am wondering how deep the fuge compartment should be?
There has to be someone out there who can help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my experience the mud stuff is just another way of getting a few more bucks out of you, I would just stick with 3-4" LS bed

it's all relative... do you have a deep sand bed in your display tank? or no sand bed?
3-4" is normal for a large refugium its going to depend on your tank size; display and sump.... and your current sand bed.... and what you hope to accomplish..

well when I set up the new tank it is a 120, gonna have approx 4-5" DSB. fuge is gonna be 30x16x16. I hope to accomplish a flurishing fuge of macro's!
