would a 55 gallon aquarium be too large for a refugium for my 125 gallon? has anyone made a fuge out of a tank this size?

I don't see why it would be to large for your fuge......As long as you have the room it should be fine!!!!

Mine is setup behind my 90 gallon and I do have a hole drilled in it. Tank only cost me $25.
This is how it looke several months ago.

Heres one when I was still setting it up, the hole was filled with a bulkhead and screen, then just piped to the sump. It was gravity feed into the fuge and gravity out.

Look for the 40 gallon breeder, this should do nicley under a 90 gallon stand. I'm thinking about ordering one for a new sump idea along with a new skimmer.

Your tank is already set up? How is the design of your stand???? Depending how bad you want it under the tank I'm sure it could be done

You many be able to remove the center brace depending oh how it is designed.. If your uncomfortable with it you can support the tank wiht a 2x4 and a support in front of the DT while you get your 55 under it.

Not at all. My 30 gallon fuge sits beside my 75g DT. It has a DSB some LR and macros and has really come to life as far as micro fauna in the past month or so. I had a friend over the other day and he looked at the DT for about two minutes. When I handed him a magnifying glass to check out my pod population he went over every square inch of that fuge for at least five minutes.
Fuges may not jump out at you when you first view the system but once noticed are quite fascinating in there own right even to the initiated.
Now for a fancy living room show piece type tank maybe not but other wise I say go for it. You really don't want to move your tank just for a fuge once its gotten this established.
Also when beside the tank its going to be that much easier to access.
