Thanks HeatLvr :)
Mine is full of pods too, and my main tank is covered in them, like thousands because I have no predation, only cleanup crew. I never added anything to it, other than just having the live rock. I'm sure the fuge got them from the overflow. I thought about the mud as well, heard great things about it but prolly dont need it now.
Id prefer Chaeto too, but the chaeto I have in there kind of disintegrated and not much is left. The Caleurpa grows so fast, i think its the razor blade type, but it sends roots into the sand. Im going to try and get a large bunch of chaeto soon and remove all the caleurpa.
I forgot to add that there is a littleneck clam hidden in there somewhere. I might even add some mangrove sapplings too. Its so much fun all the things you can do with a fuge.
In the end, I think the most important thing about the fuge is Pods (fish food) and Macro algae (nutrient removal). How you get there is up to you

Hi Gator,
When I first set mine up, all i could think about was caluerpa, caulerpa,, but then asking around I was told to definately use the Chaeto, because it doesnt go asexual, when Chaeto dies it releases spores into the water that can be toxic..also i dont have any spores in the ST yet, but i have alot in the FUGE,, I hope the get transfered soon,, after a while, im just gonna grab a piece of chaeto and shake it into the tank,, that will get it going! LOL peace and continued good luck!

Question with a fuge:
This is my setup can I make a fuge out of this? It is a 35 gal sump. I am a newbee(9 months) and hear good things about them but need to gather more info.
Any suggestions is appreciated!

I was told that if I run the HOB fuge i wont need the HOB filter. Is this so?
Here is my dilemma. I have a HOB filter and a Prizm skimmer. I have the HOB fuge on the way. What should I do???? :help:

ACR, is that graliceria algae in your fuge,, awesome, awesome fuge,, best one ive seen to date! can you tell me the benefits of the graliceria algae please?

Gracilaria is also one of the very best algae for vegetable filters. It does require brighter light than alternative genera (2 watts per liter approximately) and appreciates very strong water movement like Chaetomorpha to keep the colony tumbling for good health and growth. Gracilaria can be equally effective as Chaetomorpha for nutrient export and has the added benefit of being more palatable to herbivorous fishes if (re-)cycling of the nutrients is preferred instead. So in short I LOVE IT.

MINE works great and pulls out alot of skim, BUT I DO admit that i need to adjust it from time to time to get just the right skim, by adjusting the airflow and moving the removeable collection cup- up or down!

Hey Mazzy,
The clip on fan causes evaporation to occur which lowers the temperature of the water.
I have to do this because my lights heat my temperature up and I dont want to buy a chiller. I have it on the same timer as my halides.

You might get a little die off, but if conditions are good it should come back strong! It definately will make the shipping!
