Refugium/Sump

I have tried running searches on these and haven't gotten what I am after
Will someone please break these two things down a little for me? I am nearing the final stages of setting my reef tank up and these two things are driving me crazy.

"Refugium provides controlled growing area for macro algae and other food sources" - Does your DT water run through a refugium and these food sources go with it or do you have to add it to your DT manually.
With a non-drilled tank, do you just run PVC piping to/from your sump or does tubing come with them? I've seen things like Pentair Aquatics (Rainbow Lifegard) CustomFlow Plumbing Kits - Does someone have photos explaning their setup and does the powerhead attach to this piping anywhere? Do you need two powerheads, 1 for the water going to the sump and 1 for the return water?

1) Water from DT runs through your fuge. You put macro algae(chaeto)in the fuge.
2) You can use strictly pvc or a combination of pvc & flexible plumbing or flex plumbing only. It's up to you and the type of design/system you desire.
3) Use power heads for current flow in your display tank. Use a pump to circulate water between your fuge/sump & your DT. Non-drilled tanks must use an overflow box to get water out from DT to the sump/fuge.

A powerhead is a water pump that can be completely submersed so i'm confused on your powerhead and pump answer
I have found this overflow box:

Where do you attach the pump?
2 you need to pumps?

The overflow box takes water to the sump via gravity siphon(no pump). A pump, either external or submersible is usually placed in or near(outside)the sump/fuge & pushes water back up to the DT.
Powerheads are in fact pumps, but usually refer to devices that are rated for smaller pressure such as for creating flow within your DT. Pumps are for higher pressure duty.
You need to closely match your return pump head capacity to your overflow box capacity.
