Refugium with Canister & Wet/Dry Filter??

So I'm wondering if a refugium would make sense given my current setup -- an 80 gallon reef with an Eheim Ecco canister filter, Eheim Professional Wet/Dry filter, AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer, and a 15W AquaStep UV Sterilizer. I was thinking about putting the refugium to the left of the equipment (check out the pic below) to grow copepods, amphipods and act as another means of biological filtration. There's another pic below showing the reef so let me know your thoughts -- thanks!!

Do you think it's overkill? If the other stuff is sufficient I'm wondering if I'd be pouring hundreds of dollars into something that might just be duplicating what's already there.

What is that fish at the top by the powerhead? Is that a puffer?

Yeah, there's a pair of white spotted toby puffers ... they were raised in a reef setup and fortunately don't disturb any of the corals or polyps.
