refugium

Could someone please explain to me how to set up a refugium, I have a 55 gallon tank with enough room on the back to hang one. I read about making the box w/ plexi-glass I just don't know how to get the water from that and back into the tank. Excuse my ignorance, I just can't see the point in spending 300 for one if it's possible w/ your help to make it myself. Thanks in advance. :help:

Well i would check out the famous auction site first.
Here is a pic of the cpr hangon, Pretty basic . Input with a Powerhead on one side, and one outlet with just pvc on the other.
You can do the same design with a 10g tank next to it if you have room. Would have to be slightly higher ofcourse.
And don't forget the hanging bracket.
I would make a very long one if i did. A sump/fuge would be even better.

Heres a sketch.
The ph fills the tank up to the water line. Then once the water rises to the drain pipe it falls back in the main tank.
So it constantly sends your main tanks water thru it.

i too am planning on building a fuge and cant for the life of me figure out the engineering behind it...

They cycle your tanks water thru it.
And it is better to have it go across the fuge so it absorbs the nitrates and phosphate.
A basic in and out flow design.
