What size fuge would anyone suggest for a 55 gallon tank and needed equipment, LS, LR etc to go with it and can it be mounted under the tank so as not to be seen since my tank can be seen from both sides?
A parts list would be great if anyone can come up with one. I just want to have the best tank that I can build.
I am also taking advice from some of you on here, as I have also read and using uncured rock in my tank so that I can experience cycling first hand and curing at the same time in my tank.........that and I also want all the lil hitch hikers that come with the uncured rock.
I am using Fiji, Carribean, Bali, Deco and Marshall live rock........110 lbs total

Measure the space under your tank. Then look for a tank with dimensions a little smaller. Bigger is always better when it comes to sumps / fuges and here's why:
1. More water volume - the more water volume you have the more stable a system becomes. If a fish dies in a 10g tank and you don't see it for a few days the consequences could be dire. That same fish dying in a 110g tank would probaby not afent water quality much at all.....
...And in case of power outtage there's more room to collect draining tank water and prevent a flood.
2. The larger the sump the more room you have for a fuge. More sand, more LR, more cheato / caulpera etc to reduce nitrates, more "critters"
3. More room to put all the "stuff" heaters, protein skimmer etc.
4. when building your sump/fuge make the skimmer compartment just big enough to house skimmer and pump comfortably, make the return section just big enough for the return pump to filt comfortably, make the rest your fuge.
I use a 20g sump under my 92g, about 10g of which is for the fuge. I can't tell you the last time I saw any detectable nitrates in my system.

The underside of my tank will fit a 30g easy. How should I go about seting it up and what equipment do you suggest?

Check out the DIY section there is a lot of good information there. I am also a newbie so I cant tell you anything just point ya in what I believe to be the right directions. There are all sorts of plans and such there it should give you some great ideas.

Check the height of a 30gal. It was almost to tall for my stand for me to work in. You might look at a 20L. There are kits you can buy to build your sump you just have to search for them. They are on a very popular site. Just type in refugium in your google and start following the links.
