I Just purchased a regal tang. I have not seen him eat in three days. Is this just stress from the move? When should I start to really worry about him? How can I get him to eat?
If it was the water or my water was bad I would not ask untill I got my water back to normal. Realize the obvious treatments have been ruled out. I just do not know that much about this bred of tangs. I have tried a varity of foods with no luck. I guess what I am asking does anyone know any special tricks or tactics
I also have a regal tang myself and it toke about 4-5 days to eat. I feed it flakes, brine shrimp, myses shrimp, kelp and plankton. You should see how fat I got it in comparson to what it looked like when I first got it. I think that its probably still a lil affraid in its new surroundings just give it a little more time. Im sure it will come around soon. Any how good luck. :happyfish
Hovering in the corner butt up does not sound good. Try placing a seaweed select sheet or sea veggie sheet in the tank on a clip or rubberband to a rock.
You can also try soaking the food in Garlic. Sounds like he is not doing well just hovering in a corner butt up. Did you see him eat before you purchased? Perhaps the period without food is longer than you think if you did not see him eat before purchase.
Ill second the eating thing. Always try and make sure the fish is eating before you buy it. If you can get your hands on some live brine shrimp try that. Live prey is always more exciting than dead. If the tang sees your other fish all excited and eating it will stimulate him to join in.

I never mentioned the tank size. So how do you know?
I remember looking at this thread when it was first posted but i just didnt have time to respond. But in your sig you had a 46 gallon bowfront but since you were informed your tank was too small you removed it.....
For your info mr. canandian guy I have a 125g fowl. I am so tired of these elementary solutions to the problem. I am looking for more advanced discussions.
Ps who listens to canadians anyway

I have been in this hobby for over 30 years and I do not beleeive I gave you an elementary solution. Folks are just trying to help.
I guess I have yet to advance to the esteemed advanced level. :nope:
My concern is the "head down, butt up". This is usually defensive positioning caused by aggression from other fish. Do you have any other tangs, especially other Acanthurus/Paracanthrus sp.?
