Hey does anyone have experiences with Regal Tangs. I am just wondering if the majority of the experiences are good or bad.
Thanks,

well, i've had one for about a month and he's wonderful. he eats nori, brine shrimp, and squid without any problems. my wife really loves his colors and he seems to be a really outgoing fish. one suggestion, though...if given the opportunity, don't purchase one unless it's been in your LFSs tanks for at least a week. that way, it's less likely you will get a sick fish (but not guaranteed, unfortunately :( ). hope this helps ya :)

This is a bad fish in every book, I've ever read, BUT . . .I've seen this fish recently looking ok frequently recently. I'm amidst at what is keeping it alive now, but something is apparently. I'd like to know, is it a polyp feeder or (should mention all the regals I've seen doing ok in books or life were in reefs)?

geez I will never have a tank without one.. its a cool fish.. It has been very healty and forgiving.. I took all of my liverock out and put in a bucket.. about 2 hours later I couldnt find my hippo tang.. and waahhlaaahh. he was laying in a small puddle of water breathing.. put him back in the tank and I could never tell he was out of water for 2 hours..
plus it just has a cool pattern.. its kinda like a tatooed fish.. I dig 'em.. It even keep's my huma trigger inline.. The hippo head-butted the trigger as soon as he was fully aclimated and in the tank.. then everytime my trigger looked at another fish the hippo would put him in his place.. I have nothing bad to say about the regal.. just a great relatively inexpensive fish.. ~DAniel

"regal tang" ie. a hippo/blue atlantic tang, or a REGAL ANGEL?
I wouldn't put either in a bucket for 10 minutes FWIW, UNLESS NECESSARY.

I have had my Hippo (Regal) Tang for over a year now. He has grown well and eats everything I put in the tank, although he is a little shy. He never had any ich until I moved him from my old FO tank to a new FOWLR/DSB - I think that the move stressed him out. HOwever, after a week of garlic supplemented food and the addition of a fire shrimp, all signs of ich are gone (apologies to those who recommended hyposalinity - I wanted to try this first). He's a gorgeous fish to have if you can keep him happy.
