But it floats. Shouldn't you take advantage of that wonderful technological breakthrough and keep it elsewhere? It's not like you have to reach far into the tank.
I wound up with the big 3 or 4" one and it was way to bulky looking in my 45 so that's why keep it elsewhere.
It sure is a pain though every time I get my fingers pinched!

Do the mag floats have that good of a magnet?
I have a "regular" sinking magnet and I have never hurt myself. Yet
That's fine until it sinks in the tank and you knock the rocks down like I did trying to retrieve it. But I have a 10 gallon...more room for error, so to speak!
Mag Float for me!
I am really careful with the mag. I have had a few close calls but I was wondering if the mag has a better magnet than most and if it has better scraping power.
Would anyone mind explaining how the floating magnet works? I've seen pictures of it, and I know what it's supposed to do, but I haven't the slightest idea how you go about using one. Thanks! =)

I leave mine in. it grows algae on it and the coral beauty thinks it is his dinner tray.
WOW... Sounds like you need a Mag Scrapper for your Mag Scrapper...
lefty,
all it is is that the magnet on the inside has like a really rough wiryish side and it is pulled really tight to the glass by the magnet (hence the name mag float) and all you do is drag it back and forth over the glass by the outside magnet and it scrapes all the crap off. it works pretty good.

The larger half has the magnet in it (goes on outside of tank) The thinner half goes inside the tank. This is the scrapeing half. The magnet brings the 2 together, and you're ready to go!

I've never used a magfloat..Does it scrape coralline algae off the glass??? I usually have to use a credit card to get that stuff off my glass.
It doesn't really get coralline off easily. I use a kent metal marine scraper for that.
