This new tank I am setting up will be at my parent's house so I will only be able to get home once a week to do cleanings, so I would prefer to have a drain house...better be safe than sorry.
Indeed, while mine usually hums along and makes a quarter-inch or so of knarly skimmate a day at best, sometimes (I suspect due to a certain type of food given without turning the pumps off) it goes nuts and regardless of collection cup height, it quickly fills with water. Luckily I've been able to catch it before it spills too much.
I plan on making a drain hose. The local Lowes homestore carries several of those small, 1/4" tube fittings ("John Guest" style?) and I'm going to see if they have bulkhead style fitting and run a tube to a milkjug or large sodapop bottle down in the stand.
As a DIY, get the bulkhead first to determine what size hole you need, and then just drill slowly and easily. Should be an easy-sleazy project.
