Just got my Remora Pro Skimmer, didn't get a collection cup with a drain house though... Can I take a plastic drill bit and make my own drain fitting?
Has anyone done this?
Thanks

Cool thanks...Any tips/pointers? What size drain did you use and what about positioning?
Thanks a lot! You saved me 45 bucks

Cant you just take the cup off and dump it?
I am thinking about buying the skimmer to and i dont understand this cup drain thing if you all could clear that up that would be great thanks

Depending on if you skim dry or wet, you could have a flux in the amount of skimate you pull. If you don't clean your cup when it is full, it can overfill and create quite a mess/even fires if cords and plugs are not properly positioned. This new tank I am setting up will be at my parent's house so I will only be able to get home once a week to do cleanings, so I would prefer to have a drain house...better be safe than sorry.

Indeed, while mine usually hums along and makes a quarter-inch or so of knarly skimmate a day at best, sometimes (I suspect due to a certain type of food given without turning the pumps off) it goes nuts and regardless of collection cup height, it quickly fills with water. Luckily I've been able to catch it before it spills too much.
I plan on making a drain hose. The local Lowes homestore carries several of those small, 1/4" tube fittings ("John Guest" style?) and I'm going to see if they have bulkhead style fitting and run a tube to a milkjug or large sodapop bottle down in the stand.
As a DIY, get the bulkhead first to determine what size hole you need, and then just drill slowly and easily. Should be an easy-sleazy project.

Well no promises on the easy...I always find a way to make things harder than they are. But the sleazy, I think I can get that covered
