Tim,remember I use Boiling water, but after it shrivels up you should be able to suck it out by using the turkey baster in reverse.

you want to make the kalk or pickling lime a paste and just inject some into its mouth, it will shrivel up and melt away. YOu will see a big difference almost immediately and eventually it will all go away. It may have to be done a couple of times though.
If you have none, try your lfs, our one here, if you want some for aptaisia, will give you a little if you ask. Instead of buying a jar of it.

I just used boiling water with a test kit syringe on mine, and sucked the little bugger out. I just hope that he didnt have a party in that little hole!

hmmm i think my apstasia is bigger than your lot. I tried sucking it up when the turkey baster was on reverse and there was not enough pulling power on the baster! I could get it up into it but it would hang on to the rock and I couldnt let it go! Argghhh!
Well how much Ca should I squirt onto these things? I used almost one suringe on one apstasia and I probably have about 8-10 specimins of the damn thing. Sigh.
I will try and take a pic and put it on here so you guys get an idea.
Oh btw what is the danger of apstasia to corals?
Thanks,
Tim.

and whilst taking a pic for my diatoms thread you get a good view of one of the blighters...on the right hand side

Tim,
they are good sized ones.. I used boiling water too.. worked in seconds!!! You really need to put the tip of the needle or whatever you are using right into it! NOT around it.. and it will scrivel instantly!!
Good luck.. looks better already!

this may sound stupid question, but how 'boiling' is the water? is it still bubbling? how do you maintain the heat? I mean will it still work at 85-90c?
Thanks,
Tim.

Oh yeah . . . that would be plenty hot. I dont remember the exact conversions so i dont really know where that is, but as long as it is significantly above the temp of the tank it should work. And as an update on my situation is that it is GONE!

This might make you feel a little better. If you think that your aptasias are large, check out this one!

TIM - I just put my water in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes and it comes out steaming. Carry the coffe mug to my tank and shoot into the aptasia .... just did this last night - they shriveled and one fell off the rock and the crab was on it in a matter of seconds ... which makes me wonder if I need to feed my crab more than once every few weeks.

Yeah, the hot water thing worked well for me, on both the aptasia, and hydroids.
Kim,
No thankfully its not in my tank, I got it from another site.

Have you tried a couple of peppermint shrimp? They would go well with the rest of your setup. Mine clean a rock full of aptasia overnight.
Good Luck!

Hi jumpfrog,
Over here in merry ol england for some reason peppermint shrimp is like gold dust (and just as expensive when you do find them!). Cleaner shrimp seem to be the order of the day over here.
I have blasted the hell out of them this evening and they all seem to have died instantly. I dont like to be glorious in victory, but they got what was coming to them!
Anyway, we shall see tomorrow morning.....
Cheers,
Tim.
