Removing CC and going to Sand

I have only been in the saltwater tank hobby for about 12 weeks. I think I made a mistake by making my substrate 50% CC and 50% live sand. I was wondering if it is too late to slowly remove some of the CC and replace it with more sand? If not, how much should I remove at a time? I just have been hearing all this negativity associated with CC and figured I should fix it before its too late.

My dad has a 240G reef and a 40 G cube both with a 50-75%CC start then added LS to seed the SB and he NEVER vaccums or has nitrate problems. He does have the proper cleanup crew in each as well as a few sandsifting stars, and sandsifting fish in each. I am getting ready to do the same thing in my 120G which I started for 2 days then dismantled b/c my homeloan came through and im MOVING!!

found a awsome way to change cc to sand without destroying the tank use a 1" hose and syphon the coral out of the tank into a bucket and catch the coral in a net let the water set for a bit and syphon it back into the tank or do it when you do a water change then when you put the sand back in you can do two things use a funnel and hook the 1"hose and funnel it into place or for a faster way whipe the bags of live sand so there are no oils or any thing on the bags put the bags in the water cut the corner not to big and poor it in slow but keep it down low to the bottom so you dont make the tank cloudy
