wow.. im right in the middle of remodeling a bedroom here at the house , as you can see i took up the yucky carpet and under it was the old style sheet linoleum, aside from the scraping, and scraping , and scraping and scraping is there any other way to get the paper/glue backing off the floor ? it is holding tight in the middle of the floor, the top laminate layer came up np its just the greyish whitish backing, im killing my back trying to scrape it up does anyone have a miracle product they have used before that wont kill the wood ? thanks in advance

Looks like plywood underneath?
Not familiar if it is, but with our concrete foundation, a big muthda floor scrapper and a big mallet hammer is all we needed...

ooooooooh that's a TON of work there Jenny!!!! awesome!!! when my folks' ripped up the carpets in their house, there was a room with the same issue; they ended up having to call flooring people for that one room b/c it was super complicated and we didn't want to damage the hardwood. i'd be a little hesitant to try that myself.... good luck!!!!!!

it is a ton of work and ive been devoting all my spare time and energy to it...when im not here resting with you fine folks of course
- the room was made from a porch that was closed in - very badly i might add and has lumpy wavy walls- so doing the drywall was a pain
here are closer shots of the floor - you can see where im just skidding off the

Just out of curiousity, what do you plan to replace it with? If you go with a laminate or engineered wood floor that 'floats', I wouldn't even mess with pulling it up.
EDIT - Never mind. Just took a closer look at your pics and saw the hardwood underneath (duh!). I'd try to scrape as much as possible off and then rent a floor sander from Home Depot or such and sand the rest off.

jenny hangs drywall????

I helped my hubby with maybe 5 sections in our basement and I was D O N E !! That is some tough work.
The floors look pretty good with the exception of the junk on it. Why on earth would someone put linoleum on that???
All of our floors are hardwood thank goodness.
Something has to be out there to take that junk off of there. Yes you may mess up the floor, but you can always refinish it. (you are going to have to anyway). So far the floor looks pretty good (the part that is bare)
Is this your new house??? I wasn't sure which house you went with if any

im gonna wait till the market stops sliding around...i know the floors are pretty great( who would cover up wood floors?
) i have found three boards im gonna need to replace in the room ,and two in the little hall outside the room. i have never done that yet so i get to learn something new - but i have refinished before, i try to stick to plumbing though - its easier lol

IMO, rent a commercial sander from a tool rental place-looks like the big buffers used on hospital floors. You are going to have to sand the underlayment anyway, and get some fine to coarse pads from them. Good Luck!

i would try a hair dryer
blast heat it and see if the glue loosens.
i wouldnt have to worry too much about the hardwood, as it is going to have to be refinished anyways.

I agree, this and a bunch of sandpaper for it as it will gunk up pretty quickly.

I used boiling hot water in sections. Still an arm killer but worked great. If you are not careful with the sanders you can do some serious damage to that beautiful wood. I cannot believe people put crappy stuff on top of hardwood floors.
