My Puffer has signs of ick, hes in a 75 gallon tank by himself with live rock. I just set up my qt today a 29 gallon. I moved my live rock over to the qt tank to help it cycle so I could treat the my 75 with cupamine. My question is one my LR has had some hair alge grow on it it I leave it in the qt tank will the hair alge die off? And my other question is my lfs said to treat the tank longer then 2 weeks is this true?
Thanks so much

chopzini, you can not put any copper in your display tank. It will kill off the live rock once you return it.
Use hyposalinity. The treatment is discussed in the FAQ Thread at the top of this forum.

Hey Beth,
I think I messed up huge I had already removed my LR and treated the tank with Copper before I saw your post. I had heard that once the copper cycle was done I could remove it with pads is this not true. Thanks so much for all your help.

No, absolutely very, very bad. I'm assuming you have a live sand bed? Copper will kill your biofilter, and you can never really completely remove it without breaking the tank down. Do you have carbon filtration? Are you familiar with hyposalinity?

Yes I have a carbon filter I am running a canister, I pulled out my Carbon before I started the copper. No I am not fimiliar with Hyposalinity I have been searching it on the site here and trying to learn about it. I just did a test of the copper and very little if any is showing on the test kit. It had said to add one dose then the rest in 48 hours. Should I stop with that now and go to Hyposalinity?
Thanks so much Beth
