rena filstar xp3 filter problem pumping

I got a rena filstar xp3 filter and it hardly pumps any water. I cleaned the impeller and everything I could inside with pipe cleaners and q-tips so its all clean and I plugged it back in and still hardly any pressure. it use to have a lot of pressure and now I can put finger over the outlet hose and hardly feel any pressure so I am wondering what else it could be.

Did you clean the filter pads etc?

Double check to make sure the impeller is seated properly and that there aren't any blockages in the in the hoses, connections etc. I always would fill the canisters back up with water before I put em back in action.

p.s. stay away from using chemicals to clean your equipment. You shouldn't need anything more than water to clean them unless you have calcium build up, in which case a solution of vinager mixed with water should do the trick.

okay ya I didn't use any chemicals I used q tips and pipe cleaners lol. the impeller was in there good and I cleaned it off so it looks new. only thing left to check is the hoses I didn't think of those.

cleaned out the impeller/hoses and washed all the sponges and filter change and everything else I could possible do even clean out the fittings with pipe cleaners and it seems to be working now. I couldn't see anything clogged in the lines since I cleaned into the sink so I could see any stuff inside but was a lot of grime in the hoses and fittings and everywhere and got all that out so I think its all better. need to start doing the water changes and cleaning more often now I guess. thanks for all the help

Glad you got it. Yeah I remember using the spray bars back in the day and they had a tendency to get gummed up after a while and choke off the flow.

You threw me off for a moment there when you said pipe cleaners. I had a horrific vision of a filter cleaning party with Liquid Draino being the guest of honor.

Lol ya. I dont got the spray bar thing ur talking about mine just shoots water out hose really fast giving my fish a ride when they swim into it lol. I got all my stuff use and didnt come with spray bar. And nope children craft center raid for small things to bend inside fittings to clean them out lol. Worked really good for cleaning the lines inside impeller lol.
